Strengths and Weaknesses of Mouthwash
Using mouthwash loosens up the surface of plaque on your teeth and in your gums. Mouthwash kills some microorganisms in your mouth. Mouthwash makes you feel refreshed after you use it. You should definitely use any mouthwash prescribed by your dentist, because it will be more powerful than over the counter products.
Because it often contains alcohol, mouthwash can irritate sores you may have in your mouth. Mouthwash can also cause dry mouth. Mouthwash does not kill all of the microorganisms and bacteria in your mouth, and if you have bad breath in the first place, that is a sign that there may be a bigger problem. What Does Flossing Do?
Flossing allows you to scrape the plaque off your teeth thoroughly—not just the surface of the plaque, but all of the plaque, including the bacteria that live inside the plaque. Using floss might be somewhat painful, and your gums might bleed after flossing, but that just means your gums could be diseased because you are not flossing enough. Regular flossing should quickly clear up gum problems like gingivitis that cause bleeding when the gums are irritated.
Flossing or Mouthwash?
While there are some weaknesses to using mouthwash, there are virtually no drawbacks to flossing. Your gums and teeth need to be cleaned properly, with brushing and flossing, to be strong and healthy.
